“One of my favorite things to do is to put on my tennis shoes and go for a good walk. There are many trails near all of the communities in Humboldt. The Hammond Trail is one of my favorites as it runs the entire length of McKinleyville from Clam Beach south along the coast, over Widow White Creek, along the ocean bluffs and to the Mad River where there is a bridge to connect you to Arcata. Links to the Hammond Trail are from most of the east/west roads in McKinleyville.”
Trinidad Head Walk
“ Another delightful walk is the trail around Trinidad Head. The trail starts in the parking lot at Trinidad Beach, goes completely around the head, and ends up in the same spot. Part trail and part road, it is a walk rich in ocean scenery, sea lions, history, and good views of Trinidad Harbor. December 1st is opening day for crab season. Be on the spot to watch fisherman load their boats with crab pots, and then later bring their catch up to the pier. It’s all hustle and bustle and quite exciting! Humboldt Bay and Woodley Island Marina in Eureka are also great places to watch the fisherman.”
